Prof Dr Dr Elsabe Kloppers was a Professor of Practical Theology at the University of South Africa. She taught hymnology at various universities. Her current focus is on the cultural and political role of religious songs in lived religion, the aesthetics, translation and reception of ecumenical hymns in various contexts, and aspects of singing and decolonisation.
