After studying musicology and Protestant theology, Beat Föllmi was appointed Professor of Church Music and Hymnology of the University of Strasbourg (France) in 2012. He has served as Visiting Professor at Laval University in Québec and at Kyoto University. His principal research interests include the musical practice of the Reformed churches (especially the Huguenot Psalter), the role of music in conflict situations, and religious music and emotion. In collaboration with the University of Mainz (Research Centre for Church Song and Hymnbooks), he oversees the Hymnological Database HDB.
